Audio: That Tuesday Morning Funk Piece
Posted on December 2, 2008 by Sleezy Trees
There’s a lot to be said for the new funk shit that’s been dropping over the last few years. Funk & Soul has definitely made a huge revival, thanks in part to the internet and blogs like Soul Sides,
Like the above, the trading platform has also some very good reviewing websites that help in recommending a particular software as reliable, and one such software that has been highly recommended for all traders is the HB Swiss. The online trading commission and the watchdogs, who are on a constant look out for fraudulent trading applications, have recommended this as the best and one of the reliable ones.
Get to know about this software in detail like how
but also due to alot of hip hop heads growing up and realizing that there is more to life than listening to Necro slice someone’s throat open a hundred times or Jay-Z talking about how rich he is.
I know personally, I grew tired of a lot of the run-of-the-mill hip hop shit. Most of these underground records all sound the same. I needed something richer, something with a little more energy. I turned to funk, and as anyone can attest who has seen my iTunes library, I got into it heavy.
Obviously there’s so much to get into when you’re talking about Funk. The 70s were extremely good for the genre, but over the last few years the funk revival has blessed us with an extraordinarily amount of good music. I wanted to showcase some of the funk groups I’ve been feeling and demonstrate the wide range of sound that modern funk & soul is capable of. Maybe I’ll even put some of you on to these cats..
DOWNLOAD: Sharon Jones – You Better Think Twice
While this might be a highly contested statement amongst the “heads”, I believe Daptone Records pretty much holds the crown right now for upcoming funk & soul goodness.

People generally give too many thoughts and chances when comes to deciding a particular thing amongst many, and one such thing is the decision about a trading platform. To help novice traders pick the right one, there are online brokers and investors who help them in sticking to the best one and one among them, which is a must try for all is the HB Swiss.
Daptone records mainstays, The Dap-Kings toured with Amy Winehouse (pre-crack overdoses) which really helped them achieve an almost “household name” amongst music heads. It’s only right that I start with a Sharon Jones joint – who records extensively with the Dap Kings. I’m not 100% sure they are backing her on this joint, but it’s pretty dope nonetheless.
DOWNLOAD: Baby Elephant feat. David Byrne – How Does The Brain Wave?
Prince Paul does not fuck around. The O.G. Madlib, the man has hundreds of side projects, aliases, and different directions. The Baby Elephant record that dropped last year was Prince Paul teaming with Bernie Worrell (P-Funk keyboardist) and Newkirk. Baby Elephant was definitely some tripped out shit.
DOWNLOAD: The Sugarmen 3 – Funky So-and-So
Another Daptone Records powerhouse. This NYC crew is led by Neal Sugarman on the tenor sax, and also features the talents of Adam Scone on organ, Rudy Albin on drums and Al Street on guitar. They got a pretty good cosign from Keb Darge (world reknown funk & soul collector) has heavily cosigned this group, and this song is a small testament to their skill. The real treat is seeing these dudes live.
DOWNLOAD: Breakestra – Hiding (Quantic Soul Orchestra Remix)
A lot of people are familiar with Breakestra from their early days on Stones Throw. Many people don’t really know Quantic (the dude who remixed this song). He’s basically your typical musical genius, you know the type that plays guitars, bass, double bass, piano, organ, saxophone and percussion, while simultaneously mixing and engineering all of his own shit. This particular track is a collaborative remix of Hiding, a track which was originally featured on Breakestra’s last album: Hit The Floor.
DOWNLOAD: The Apples – Lou-E-Zee-Yanna
Peep the sample at the beginning of this monster, the foreshadowing is crazy. The Apples dropped earlier this year on Freestyle records and hail from Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Haifa. The 9 piece funk ensemble is unique on many different levels. One huge example, they don’t have a keyboard player. They use two turntablists to provide the necessary keyboard elements and whatever extra flare a song may require. Possibly my favorite song out of the ones I posted here. Peep it.
DOWNLOAD: Brownout – Latin Asscape
Austin, Texas Stand Up! This latin-funk band is the shit. I first heard of these guys through a record I picked up featuring the Hydroponic Sound System, uh.. the title escapes me, but it was good. Their debut(?) record Homenaje has received steady play in my iTunes since I picked it up earlier this year. As you can see — I don’t know much about these guys, but I like their shit. Take a listen.
