JTTS Five Mics Series: My Open Letter To DJ ON&ON from 2011 – Did He Ever Read It?

Tuesday, November 5th, 2013

The Five Mikes Series is an ongoing look back at the 5+ year history of JumpTheTurnstyle.

A few years back (2011) DJ ON&ON also took a hiatus from blogging at JTTS. He was scorned for reasons never really revealed. I wrote an open letter to him back then and he never responded to me. I’m hoping that by me repoasting this while he is frequenting the blog again I can finally get a response.

Also I am looking for an update / explanation on his vintage distressed Hartford Whalers throwback (seen after the jump) that looks like it was purchased at Abercrombie.

Dear Dave …

JTTS Five Mikes Series: Chris Faraone’s Baloney Sandwich Rap

Thursday, August 1st, 2013

This is Vintage JTTS poastings from our history. Hand selected and deemed legendary status by the JTTS staff. These legendary moments in internet history are truly the fabric of what defines JTTS.

Original Poast Date: July 25, 2008:

In this vintage Chris Faraone poast from July 2008, which he claimed to be “The Best Nas Post Ever”, Faraone executed what I would like to call the tipping point in what would be his reputation on JTTS. Up until this point in the blog history, many of his writings were humorous and informative, but creating a full rap song from the perspective of -wait for it- a Baloney sandwich to the beat of Nas’ “I Gave You Power” immediately began his descent into JTTS comedic failure. I present to you:

JTTS Five Mikes Series: The Day Sleezy Trees Met GZA And He Told Him A Disturbing Story About One Of The Dudes From Killarmy

Wednesday, July 31st, 2013

This is Vintage JTTS poastings from our history. Hand selected and deemed legendary status by the JTTS staff. These legendary moments in internet history are truly the fabric of what defines JTTS.

This story was told to JTTS in the early days of the blog – 2008 by Sleezy Trees. I believe the events transpired almost 7 years ago.. but the story remains legendary and deserves to be told in 2013. Enjoy.

Original Poast Date – July 2008

So two years ago the GZA came thru UGHH while he was promoting the Muggs vs. GZA album. They had the whole crew there, DJ MuggsDJ KhalilChace Infinite, Dreddy Kruger, and of course GZA himself. These dudes were on the GZA / Muggs tour at the time and looking for promo spots. Now, GZA was inconspicuously quiet the entire time. I don’t know if he was exhausted, but he was literally one of the most lifeless artists I had ever met until that point. It wasn’t like he was unhappy to be there, he just seemed like he didn’t give a shit about anything. While all of the other artists were laughing, telling stories, complaining about various bullshit, and generally having a decent time – the GZA just sat on a couch and kept quietly to himself.

There was one particular moment when Chace Infinite (of Self Scientific) was talking about how someone from some nameless west coast hip hop group he was previously on tour with got caught jacking off to a stash of porn he smuggled aboard the tour bus. This is when GZA miraculously came to life. “You think that’s crazy..”, he said loudly, “Let me tell you about the last time I was on tour with Killarmy“. The room fell completely silent to listen to the GZA speak, Chace especially seemed intrigued, even though his story was cut off by the GZA.

“I was on a tour with Killarmy in the mid 90?s.. and something similar happened. We had accidentally dropped someone’s suitcase – one of the dudes that was in Killarmy, and it broke open as someone was moving it. I heard all this yelling, I’m like what the fuck was that? I turned around and saw the upper torso of some blow up doll or mannequin or some shit fall out of the dudes suitcase” The room fell out laughing and GZA continued, “I was like; tell me this n*gga didn’t bring half a blow up doll on tour with him. Those fucking Killarmy n*ggas.”

The GZA is a seemingly intelligent dude — they nicknamed him the Genius for chrissakes, but this particular day he seemed to be incredibly lethargic and kind of slow-off-the-line. We had asked him to do a series of drops for us – all of which he massacred horribly. He could not for the love of god say DJ Food Stamp – he literally had like 4 takes. “Hey this is the GZA, right now you’re cooling with my man FOOT STAMP.. uh.. DJ Foot… Yo this is the GZA with Foot Stamp. Uh.. Yo, This is the GZA with DJ FOODSTAMP, there we go..”. LOL! And see what happened when we tried to get a drop from him for DJ ON&ON.

The Masters – GZA Voice Drop <– AMAZING.

Anyway, Wu-Tang Wednesday wouldn’t be complete without some semi-decent Wu gems. Enjoy a classic track from GZA, Jus Allah, & Boston’s Bomshot. Also, I think the first time Bomshot met the GZA was at this in-store, several months after this track was released. Hip Hop.
