LOOKS LIKE TREEZ LOST ANOTHER PBR SALE

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

so if it’s acceptable to poast shit about cats and Lil B then i wanna give a salute, not a farewell, to T.C.’s Lounge.

You hip-hop nerds may know it as Moe Pope’s favorite bar, you hipsters will know it as a last call dive bar, you suit n tie herbs look at it as the place you can go to to appear cool, drunks go there cuz it’s cheap and Matt the tender’ will verbally abuse you free of charge……it’s also know as the place Leedz used to do coke at and of course Treez(s) place that he spends his hard earned PBR side money on Narragansett beer at ……

I’ve known Tony and his son for quite a few years and was saddened to hear of a faulty cooler that started a fire in the joint shortly before the transformer (nooo Nabo not the toy, the electrical device) blew up a couple blocks from …..  they say it will be rebuilt and i say GODSPEED to them! but 2 things remain…..what happened to the Beats by Dre headphones in the stupid game you can never win at go and will Peter Boyd find another place to drink at 4 1/2 hrs before and after every Red Sox game ?

and on a happy note ……here’s just a reminder that this guy still exsists.

Frank Ocean – “4 Tears” [Audio]

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

Reading ON&ON’s list from yesterday got me thinking. Stayed up late last night with just a lonely glass of red wine and some scented candles listening to this song on repeat and just thinking about blgging and tumblrng and Skrillex memes and sensitive innanet thugz and digi-emo swag rap. Thought about how Chris Faraone sounds like a tweed jacket high school English teacher who likes to go home at night, get high and write things in his Moleskin like “there’s a dude named Aesop Rock, who, I might add, is a poetic and musical genius to this fool’s ignoramus” in his empty apartment with a few cats. Thought about how my last interaction with JKFGT was a text message saying “Do we know who Yukonn is yet?” Thought about how Treez borrowed my coffee grinder to cook up some drugs and never returned it. Wrote an angry letter to my dad, tore it up, wrote a new one, tore it up and passed out after ordering Antwone Fisher on pay-per-view. This blog is killing me.

The Internet – “Cocaine” [Video]

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

I hope Sony is happy with that ridiculous Odd Future contract they handed out right now.

Now that the hype wave has subsided from six months ago, what we have here are the remains of the devastation of that tsunami: Syd, who is either Odd Future’s DJ/engineer or some rich girl they put down with the group because she had a studio and equipment to use, depending on who you believe, is the brains behind The Internet (REAL NAME), along with Matt Martians, who will be releasing their debut LP Purple Naked Ladies in January, by which time OFWGKTA should only have less wind in their sails (aside from sure-thing star Frank Ocean). If so, it’s probably because of shit videos like this, a same-sex romance that’s like a hipster Adventureland. Over an instrumental that sounds like a pre-loaded “Pharrell” beat from a Casio keyboard, we get lots of self-important falsetto, a verse which rhymes “coke” with “coke” a couple times in that same screwed-and-chopped voice gimmick Tyler uses, and a cheesy attempt at making “Fear and Loathing” style drugged-out cinematography. This shit isn’t edgy at all: cocaine, dykes and ferris wheels…isn’t that a normal weekend for DJ Knife? Couldn’t you have made a shot-for-shot remake just using footage from Gathering of the Juggalos? Probably, and definitely.

Everything about this group, from the name to this song, feels like it comes with an entitlement to be shitty just because so many people (insert one of JKFGT’s various ‘internet personas’ here) already got that OFWGKTA needle sticking out of their arm.

If I’m gonna watch some bullshit circus hip-hop video, I’d rather take mine with some MURDAH

Frank Ocean – “Thinking About You” / “Swim Good” [Video]

Monday, September 19th, 2011

Two new Frank Ocean videos dropped over the past couple days, and boy are they purdy. The first is for “Thinking About You” (above), an official clip directed by High 5 Collective, while the second is for “Swim Good” off of Nostalgia/Ultra. My initial fears that Frank wouldn’t be able to continue the stunning start he made off that free album seem to be waning, thanks to clips like these and his couple of notable turns on Watch the Throne. If he keeps up like this, one would think he’d grow further and further away from his OFWGKTA buddies (who seem to be going in this direction), no?

Frank Ocean – Thinking About You [Audio]

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

Some falsetto from Frank Ocean. This kid’s all over the Internet. Can’t even go on Spotify without seeing 10 ads for “Novacane.” Good stuff, but waiting to see how he does on Watch The Throne, August 8th.

Early Co-Sign For Dylan Reese

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

So I was trawling through the Death Star trash compactor that is our GMail inbox when I came across the gem from the voice of the underground in Chicopee, MA, Mr. Dylan Reese a/k/a Dylan McFly. I’m not sure if it was out of sympathy for his unfortunate sideburn situation or memories of Sam Adams sending our traffic through the roof, but something about this video told me I should jump on an early co-sign for this guy. The video features Dylan and his homie KyDdFlo (as in “kid flow”…get it?) bagging some bad bitches off the street in downtown Chicopee with nothing but a striped shirt, cargo shorts and their swag. He’s going to Regis College next year (we love college), he knows how to send an e-mail and honestly, you could sneak this on Jam’n 94.5 rotation and no one would notice; throw Rebecca Black on a remix and it’s a wrap. I’m sure JKFgt will have coined a new name for this genre by week’s end.

The Weeknd – “The Birds Pt. 1″ [Audio]

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

When any new artist starts to get some buzz, it’s only a matter of time before Kanye West hears him, Tweets about him, subsequently helps him to become Innanet Famous, and then forgets about him while jumping on the next trend. Being the cool guy that he is, Kanye is almost certainly up on The Weeknd by now, and they are certainly up on him from the sound of this new song, possibly a leak from their forthcoming release Thursday. From the chorus to the marching band drums and the fact that this is only part 1, meaning there’s probably a 10-minute part 2 in the works, this one feels like it’s straight from a Kanye-in-a-Box songwriting and production kit. Not a bad song by any means, but there’s that slight feeling that these guys are starting to sleepwalk through some of these tracks just a bit.

The Weeknd – “What You Need” [Video]

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

Beat you JKfgt.

As we already reported, mentally unstable pseudo-blogger JKFgt made his grand debut in the mainstream media last week when he was mentioned in the NY Times, infuriating “real journalist” Chris Faraone, who was doubly pissed that the article was written his arch-nemesis Jon Caramanica. I knew his confidence must be running at absurdly high levels, comparable only to the feeling he got when he walked out of Lids in Downtown Crossing with his very first Boston fitted hat. Therefore, when I received an e-mail telling me “PBRxB is now following you on Twitter,” I figured he had something to do with it; he has a rare ability to sniff out (usually terrible) music trends and jump on them like a girl trying to fit in at a new school. Plus getting followers and “likes” on Facebook are the only thing that keep him alive these days.

In this case, though, well done. The Ghost of 2Pac’s favorite blogger posted House of Balloons, the mix tape from Toronto-based singer Abel Tesfaye, a few weeks ago, and even though parts of this album make me want to jump off a balcony, I’ll admit it grows on you. More interestingly, in the weeks since the album’s release, there have been videos popping up on the Internet for songs off the album, none of them official, even though they look like they could be. Via his Twitter account, Tesfaye has not only denied that these are real official videos, but has surprisingly come out and dissed his fans, saying “keep coming with them wack ass fuckin fake music videos… laughin my ass off… XO BITCHES.” Dick move, especially considering half-nekked visuals like this help turn begrudging, jaded people like myself into fans. You want to chime in on this JK?
