WTW: Victory or Death- The RZA Art Project
Posted on December 16, 2009 by Martín Caballero
This has been a surprisingly good year for the Wu: an album from Ghostface, a spiritual guide from the RZA (The Tao of Wu), some rediscovered ODB verses (on albums from N.A.S.A. and Blackroc) and of course the cherry on top being Cuban Linx II. But possibly the most intriguing of all is Victory or Death, RZA’s massive art project that will be released in limited quantities on January 1, 2010. According to RZA, the project, created in conjunction with WAIL (When Art Imitates Life) attempts to serve as a “reworking of history onto massive canvas that focuses on the concept of ‘hearing the call and revolution in an inspiring and provocative way.’” Only 360 copies (naturally) will be made available and their likely to go as fast (if not faster) than those ill J. Dilla/Shepard Fairey prints released earlier this year. You will officially be the coolest kid/biggest nerd/coolest nerd on the block if you snap up one of these…I’m not even going to ask how much they are.
The intro to the web site gives some indication of what to expect…RZA as Forrest Gump maybe? It’s supposed to encompass the last 20 years (1990-2010) so I’m guessing O.J. case, Rodney King riots, Obama election, bubble goose jackets and the like. Whatever it is the hype machine is working overtime; I don’t think I’ve ever seen a mini-trailer/web site dedicated to one individual piece of art before.

Sick.
But I’d say the best thing for the Wu all year was RZA being in “Funny People.”
wtf is up with FUSE being everywhere these days?
i didnt even know ppl watched that channel
& how teh fuck did RZA get his hands in his pockets with those pointy ass rings on?
i think its safe to say hes not wearing them & want no part of anything RZA creates sans pointy rings
to b honest i just hope meth is caught up on his taxes
he’s wearing rings in the vid
youtube is blocked at my job so i cant see it but i can tell u im fucking interested
i read in an article that he hides all his low-fi kick drums & awesome kung-fu samples in those rings
hes pretty much useless without them
