Comment Of The Week: Official Response From The BMA’s Head Honcho: Chip Rives

Posted on December 3, 2009 by Sleezy Trees

Not that I have anything to do with, nor do I personally care about the BMA’s in any fashion (I’m from Hartford).. I thought it was fair to showcase this comment from Chip Rive’s, who apparently handles some of the marketing or decision making process behind the Boston Music Awards.

He is responding to the post DJ ON&ON put up earlier in the week, which was a copy & paste of a message board post that Def Jam Recording artist Masspike Miles made about the BMAs. I hear where he’s coming from and feel bad he has gotten a bad rap. Take a look:

Wow. Someone just forwarded this to me so I thought I’d respond. I took over this awards show in 2003 and we have tried to make it better every year. We volunteer our time to run it and all of the proceeds go to Music Drives Us, a non-profit that puts money back into local music programs for kids. We seek help from the entire community to make sure it is inclusive and represents all genres. This year, we expanded the nominating committee to include 180 people from all genres and all areas of the music business in town – radio, print, online, producers, managers, studios, etc. And we’ll work hard to expand it next year and try to continue to make it better. We don’t sit in a room and decide who gets nominated or who wins these awards – we seek input and advice from the community and those folks nominate and vote.

I have learned in our 6 years of doing this that you can not make everyone happy, but we try hard to. If you, or anyone else that has commented here, have suggestions on who we can include in our nominating process that would better represent the hip-hop/R&B genres, please email me directly at crives@trpmarketing.com and I’ll be happy to reach out to them and include them in the process.

I’ve been called a lot of things in the last 6 years, but “racist” crosses a pretty big line. If you want to help make it better, then step up. But calling anyone a racist online is not the way to solve problems or advance your career.

Who the fuck are those people in that picture.

Never realized what a hilarious bunch we had representing our readership.

What happened – you couldn’t find a group pic of a bunch of whegroes with oversized white tees and baggy hats?
