Obie Don’t Need Shady
Posted on November 13, 2009 by Chris Faraone

Even when the Shady-Aftermath-G-Unit triumvirate was dropping stinker after stinker, Obie Trice was cracking cuts with gifted drunkenness. Both Cheers and Second Round’s On Me were rare redeeming efforts for the creatively fledgling Detroit major scene, which was assertively overshadowed as cats like Dilla and Black Milk came to redefine the D.
Now it appears that Trice has left Shady, and will be dropping next year’s Bottom’s Up on an independent. With that said – and considering the Moss-produced cut below – I bet that it’s his best disc yet. If dude rips hard from front to back with no care in the world if he gets commercial burn, then this next leg of his career is something that I’m looking mighty forward to.
