It’s That Time of Year…New Ghostface coming
Posted on September 10, 2009 by Martín Caballero
It’s either a sad statement about the state of hip-hop or the state of my own musical tastes that I’m starting to get my news from the self-styled cool kids at Pitchfork. But fuck it–it’s 11 AM on a Thursday and barring the ghost of Ed McMahon showing up at my door with a big ass check or a phone call from Oprah telling me I’m the father, I ain’t got shit to do but get my blog on in between praying to the glassy-eyed gods of journalism to deliver my ill-chosen profession from certain doom.
In any case, Pitchfork does have its moments. They got the scoop on art work, the track listing and tour dates for Ghostface’s new album The Wizard of Poetry, his long-awaited R&B album. Not many rappers can drop hardbody verses like Ghost does on Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… Pt. II, then turn around and drop a smoothed out R&B/hip-hop album the same month and seem completely legit and comfortable in both arenas. I’m feeling both these (completely different tracks) that have been leaked so far from the new album.
The first, “Baby” with Raheem DeVaughn (sang’n in AutoTOOOOONNNNN), has Ghost ticking off the things he’ll do for his chick/BM and why she loves him (”my stove game’s up, no red meat”) over a smooth, piano-laced beat; its either Dr. Dre himself or a high quality ripoff. Embedding within this post is disabled for the official video, so click here to watch.
But “Stapleton Sex” is a straight hip-hop sex joint. Ghostface isn’t asking his woman’s opinion about whether its OK for him to “throw you to the side with one leg up”; as he explains, “this ain’t no R&B dick, this hood/My slow jam dick is on Thursdays.” Mark your calendars (no homo): the album drops September 29.
Also, if you haven’t checked out the amazing Wizdom of the Week series, your life isn’t as rich and amazing as it could be right now. Sit down with your girl and get blessed; no one can break the shit down like Ghost.
See after the jump for track listing and tour dates…no Boston this time.

[...] This one has already been covered early, but even if it wasn’t, it needs to prefacing. It’s a Ghostface album, so don’t play yourself. Ghostface goes all ghetto Tom Jones on us, and I’m betting I’ll like it just fine. [...]
[...] has been a surprisingly good year for the Wu: an album from Ghostface, a spiritual guide from the RZA (The Tao of Wu), some rediscovered ODB verses (on albums [...]
