Jobs Not Jobs

Let me begin by stating that I understand the entire concept of corporate influenced self branding around this guy. He was a creative genius, his company exploited that fact on a certain level of mystery that put him on an almost godlike tier in the corporate and tech world. Is he the greatest inventor of our generation? Debatable in many regards, but I firmly believe that this dude was our generation’s Thomas Edison. He will be remembered 100 years from now as such.

Now, did he invent the computer, cell phone, tablet? Nope. He improved on all of those devices and made people want them. He was a sheer marketing dynamo. He knew how to make products that people wanted to buy. Our planet is 100% based on consumption – it’s a necessity to life, Jobs handled the area of consumption that played to our desire for pretty things that made our lives slightly easier and more enjoyable.

I don’t really know what will happen to Apple now, but in times like these it was nice to have him alive. He was 100% a product of American capitalism and the American dream. This country lacks leaders and creatives of his caliber. RIP to teh god.

on point. It always amazed me that the basic iPod design hasn’t really changed (OG regular iPod or “classic” now) since it was first made. Same thing for the basic design of the iPhone. I think Apple will continue making good stuff, but won’t be as innovative.

It’s good that you call him the Edison of our time, because like Edison he was a marketing genius. Edison’s biggest rival was Tesla, who was a visonary and genius beyond anything that Edison could hope to be. Tesla is the one who invented the system of modern electricity that is used world wide today, AC current, as well as the means of producing it, Niagra hydro power station was his invention, as was remote controls, radar, and a way to transmit electricity from one point to another using the earth as a conductor. Edison was a punk bitch compared to him, but his name lives on through PR and his invention of the screw in type light bulb. Tesla also invented his own 2 pronged type of light bulb which is still developed and used today. Steve Jobs didn’t invent the computer, but he made it accessible to everyone, partly by making it stylish and a status symbol to own their brand of product. The same way you see yuppies in Starbucks wearing their Northface jackets, even though they have not just returned from an arctic expedition or spent the last 3 months summiting K2.
