As some of you might know, Merrimack Valley representative and enduring Mass hip-hop producer -MC D-Tension spent more than a little bit of time in the hospital this past year. With that said, he has returned, and, apparently, has resumed dropping projects about the mundane shit that most MCs ignore – like almost dying in an ICU (for something other than bullet wounds).

I’m not sure if I was completely prepared for this EP – not after listening to D-Titty’s Christmas song about 5,000 this past holiday season. Nonetheless, it’s good for more than a few laughs, and, for those of you who know dude from FNX or the shows he’s been rocking across Mass for a decade-plus, the EP is a good catching up point. No doubt we’ll get a new full-length soon, which I presume will be about how D plans to stay out of the hospital by boning Spanglish-speaking soccer moms.

Now we all know hip hop died a long time ago, so the National yet-to-be-built Museum of Hip Hop has launched a fundraiser campaign titled “Donate-A-Dollah” to help construct it’s final resting place. Yes, they are trying to raise awareness for a “hip hop museum” (apparently they haven’t been to Chris Faraone’s bedroom), a monument to an artform that so gloriously fell when the behemoth of ringtone rap proved that the new generation of fans are basically legally retarded when it comes to taste.

“If we are ever going to create positive change within our inner-city communities, we must stop depending on out-of-area government officials and corrupt politicians; true changes begins and ends with the PEOPLE. But before the people (hip-hop culture) can exact change, they must first be unified; this, unification, is the underlying focus of the DAD Campaign,” said Craig Wilson, creator of DAD & President of NMoH. “Hip-Hop is a world renowned culture and is long overdue for an institution to recognize and educate the public on the positive contributions of the four original elements of its culture.”

Now I understand most of our readers can’t understand what NMoH.org “el presidente” Craig Wilson is saying, so let me translate his thoughts into hip hop:

“Yo, what we been practicin’ haz been dat knowledge a self 4 like mad long now.. but what had really happened wuz like we ain’t really been givin’ shit to da hip hop side ov thangs. We bout 2 change da game and flip da script on ya’ll, farealdoe. We reppin da 4 elementz to the most high, my 3rd eye open and allladat.. so what we need iz a lil’ luv from da community to make it pop off. nah mean?”.

Included in the press release was also a link to purchase a laser disc of Lovebug Starski’s greatest meltdowns.

If you’re not all SMH by now.. (that means shake my head for the whites reading this), please understand.. I love hip hop more than anyone (obviously), so I’m all for this campaign – especially since that pompous, know-it-all, $50,000 fee per lecture-ass KRS-One is against it.

And DONATE A DOLLAH? I can only assume that the museum wants us to donate a photograph of revered Singapore soccer star Dollah Kassim. I mean, DONATE-A-DOLLAH ??? Unless.. well.. they can’t be suggesting that proper fucking English isn’t hip hop.. can they?

Between never having any loot and getting most albums for free, I don’t actually buy much shit these days. But I do cop every discs and LPs from Duck Down drops – in fact I think I have every full-length project they’ve ever put out (including a copy of OGC’s M-Pire Strikez Back that I borrowed from Trees like two years ago and don’t plan on returning).

This Buckshot spread is impressive – all sorts of new tracks and a book to boot. At first glance, it especially looks like a must-buy for those of you who go around saying that you have a record label. I know you think you know every damn thing, but trust me – you could learn a trick or three from Dru Ha and Buckshot.

I don’t like straight-up running press releases, but this one does the trick, and I don’t feel like re-working it just for the sake of not being [insert name of your favorite wack web site that does little more than regurgitate media blasts].

2010 marked the 15-year anniversary of Duck Down Music. Buckshot has taken his 15-year experience and has crafted a hard-cover book entitled The Common Knowledgy Of The Entertainment Industry. The book is comprised of three stages. Buckshot first educates readers on the ‘Basics’ of the entertainment industry providing his definitions for terms associated within the business. Hip Hop mogul P Diddy has been blamed for many crazy things over the years — but a new court filing takes it to a whole new level!

In a filing obtained exclusively by RadarOnline.com, Valerie Joyce Wilson Turks is seeking a restraining order against the star, real name Sean Combs, accusing him of a whole plethora of wrong doings.

According to Turks, the 41-year-old, along with his ex-girlfriend Kim Porter and LAPD brutality victim Rodney King, is responsible for the collapse of the World Trade Center amongst other outrageous alleged atrocities.

In the disturbing court documents, Turks claims that she dated Diddy, and that the two have a son together, Cornelius Wilson, 23 years old.

She alleges that she has been subjected to abuse from 2001 – 2010 and that: “[Diddy] went through Kim Porter and Rodney King and knocked down the WTC and then they all came and knocked my children down. Set me up to be on disability and disabled my baby. he put my baby in a wheelchair.”

Valerie then goes on to say in her statement that is riddled with spelling and punctuation errors: “He date raped me 24 years ago and knocked me down him and Kim Porter and Wallace Wright, then Sean Combs and Kim and Wallace Wright came back 18 years later and raped and sexually abused my children and knocked my children down and crushed me and my children daily.

“Plus I won a lot of money at the casino in Mississippi and Sean P. Diddy Combs has my chip to my money. I heard he gave it to Gwen Allen to hold but she can not cash it in. I want my chip please help me. it’s well worth over 100 zillions of dollars, and my hospital keys. They put me and my baby in the hospital and broke my baby 2 legs and sexual assaulted my children and crushed us.”

Valerie is requesting a cool $900 billion dollars in child support, and $100 billion dollars for “loss of income.”

The judge refused to issue a temporary restraining order, and set a date for a hearing for Monday, January 31, 2011.

I’m fucking dumb excited about this disc. Life After God was incredible, and Moe’s last project over Bjork jams was one of the most amazing full-disc mash-ups in years, so this is a no-brainer (especially considering that it will be free). Plus I’ve just about heard the whole thing, so I can go ahead and vouch for the track below and then some. In fact I’ve even heard them do most of these tracks live, and, trust me, this is something to look forward to.  DJs Should especially keep an ear out.

The disc – which drops as a free download on February 10 – is called Depeche Moe; basically, Rain and Headnodic hit the boards and cranked Life After God up to Depeche Mode, synchronizing thoughtful contemporary rhymes with electro Brit nostalgia pop. Win+Win=Winnebago. And if you’re feeling that pic above – which you are – look for the Moe Pope x Annie Mulz T-shirt dropping along with the download.

If there’s one thing that those of us around JTTS headquarters agree on – and trust me, there’s only one or two things we agree on – it’s that Newz (formerly Badnewz) is one of the best damn MCs in New England, if not on the East Coast. The dude can spit, plain and simple – if you know someone who rocks harder, then speak now or forever hold your piece (pun intended).

Just back from a state-sponsored hiatus, Newz has returned to drop some of the gems that he has stashed away. Right now I’m holding three tracks – all of which are fucking dope – and I’ll be releasing them at his discretion, though not for free download since Newz is soon to drop an EP and some videos do remind everyone that when he’s on, there aren’t many dudes who can hang with him.

A few years ago I brought you all the news that no-talent reggaeton dipshit Daddy Yankee was supporting Republican corpse John McCain in the presidential election. Now here’s a story about how he may be a thief, too, as he stands accused of hiring a bunch of Mass artists and locking them inside a room with uncomfortable furniture while they cranked out his mega-hits (or something like that). Just having a Reebok endorsement deal and an honorary award from Harvard University is not enough to justify suing rapper Daddy Yankee in a Massachusetts court, a judge has ruled.

The Puerto Rican artist, among the most successful stars in the reggaeton genre, was sued by a group of Springfield musicians who claimed that a producer affiliated with Daddy Yankee had lured them to Puerto Rico to write and record an album.

In their lawsuit, the members of the “Springfield Crew” say once there, they were forced in live in a single room without furniture and sleep on the floor for months and were never compensated for the resulting songs or recordings. They also claim Daddy Yankee swiped one of their tunes for his hit, “Salgo Pa la Calle.”
